Emma Fineman was born in 1991 in Berkeley, California. She is currently living and working in London, UK where she is on the Master in Arts Degree Course in Painting at the Royal College of Art. In 2013 she received her BFA with Magna CumLaude Honors as a Painting Major at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Upon receiving her BFA, Fineman has been included in various exhibitions including a solo show entitled Freak in the Gateway Gallery in Baltimore, MD. Fineman’s work has also been featured as the solo visual artist represented by White Space Gallery as a part of Art Palm Beach. Her work was featured in the Tophane Artwalk in the show Palimpsest in Istanbul, Turkey. She attended a residency workshop at the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Aspen, CO where she was awarded the Presidential Fellowship for the program. Fineman attended the Vermont Studio Center Residency inJohnson, VT. She has attended the Maumau Residency Program in Istanbul, Turkey, as well as Artigiana Residency in Sicily, Italy. She also attended the Arteles Residency in Hämeenkyrö, Finland and the Gulkistan Residency, Laugarvatn, Iceland. Currently her work is featured in exhibitions internationally. She has had work included in a group show entitled açık | open hosted by Maumau inIstanbul, Turkey. Her work was included in a group show entitled Works from Villa Flavia in Milazzo, Sicily. Last year her works were included in a group show at Arteles in Hämeenkyrö, Finland as well as a group show entitled Gluggaveður in Laugarvatn, Iceland. Following her residency in Iceland, Fineman presented the body of paintings that she created there in the exhibition Samgöngur (Transport) at The SubGallery in San Francisco, CA. Fineman's works have also been selected by Max Presneill, Curator at the Torrance Art Museum, for the 10th National Juried Exhibition at the Axis Gallery, in Sacramento, CA. She was then granted a solo exhibition entitled O.S. 1 at the Great Highway Gallery in San Francisco, CA. In the last year her work was also selected for a group exhibition entitled Nothing To See Here at the Square Gallery London in London, UK; presented by Kajo Collection. Kajo Collection has also been representing Fineman's work in the group show No Exhibitions Allowed II at the Art Advisors Studio Amsterdam located in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Recent exhibitions include SUPERnatural / Survey of the ‘Figurative’ in Contemporary Art, curated by Karim Hamid presented by Aureus Contemporary in New York City, NY. Recently her work was awarded the Judges Prize in this years Harley Open Prize a biennial art competition curated by Hannah Obee,Geoff Diego Litherland, And Lucy Phillips. Up coming exhibitions include a group show at the Hockney Gallery in London, UK entitled Thumbnails, as well as the RBA Rising Stars exhibition, where she has be selected as a semi-finalist for the Royal Society of British Artists Rome Scholarship 2018.
Fineman has received numerous awards and scholarships including the Harley Open Judges Prize granted by the Harley Museum and Foundation;Nottingham, UK (2017), the Anderson Ranch Arts Center Presidential Fellowship (2013), Trustee Scholarship (2009-2013), MICA Presidential Scholarship (2009-2013), the MICA Foundation Scholarship (2009), and the MICA Recognition Award (2011).
